RT Cycles new year hangover cure cycleposted on 6 January 2010 | posted in Cycling tripsWe all met up at johns in inverkip and after a cup of tea and a look at the map we got ready to head off for the day . When the bikes were taken out the van stephens freehub body was frozen and not working, what are we doing out in this weather ! Rather than cycling the road we travelled through Ardgowan estate past the large house and the theme for the day was experienced for the first time , sheet ice ! . The group were in good spirits heading for the ferry to dunoon considering the temperature was around -10deg ,we figured that staying near the sea would mean possibly maybe the ice / snow would be minimal and thus less carnage ?. When the ferry docked at Dunoon we headed to Glen Massen and travelled up the glen with intention to go over a pass to the other side , it quickly became apparent that this was slightly ambitious as there were 4 spiils on the way up the fire road (it was unbeliveably smooth sheet ice all the way). We turned back and headed down the glen att really low speed toward the botanic gardens for a cuppa when Alan put the marker down for crash of the day , a speedway style slide to start finishing in 20 metre back slide , it could not be beaten. Pucks glen was next where we had some good cycling om the singletrack under the cover of the trees , up top same icy story , Jamie still managed to bruise his ribs on a good surface doh!. Back to the ferry at dusk and the cycle back to inverkip in extremely cold temperature at high speed ,( full pics of the day out in photo gallery section ) A great day out even in the sub zero glass like trails .
